This season of Gotham has been off to a terrifying start, with Jonathan Crane taking the mantle of Scarecrow and wreaking havoc on Arkham Asylum. In just two episodes, the character easily became one of the scariest villains in the show’s history.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like we will be seeing more from the Scarecrow any time soon.
Charlie Tahan, who plays Jonathan Crane on the series, took some time to speak with ComicBook.com ahead of this week’s episode. When we asked him about Scarecrow’s next move, things got a little interesting.
“I have no idea, to be honest,” Tahan admitted. “I’d love to come back but I don’t know. They kind of kept it open-ended.”
This seems like an odd time to leave the Scarecrow character. In tonight’s episode, Crane tore through Arkham Asylum, getting multiple guards killed in the process, before Jim Gordon arrived. Jim managed to escape the institution, but there was no closure in terms of what happened to Crane.
Apparently he’ll just hang out in Arkham for a little bit, since there don’t seem to be plans for him in the near future. Let’s just hope, since Tahan is willing to play the character again, the Gotham writers find a way to work him back into the story.
New episodes of Gotham air on Thursday nights at 8 p.m. ET on FOX
