Eagle-eyed Redditors noticed earlier this week that a shot from the Suicide Squad trailer — which seemed to show Harley Quinn taking her “New 52” costume out of her box of possessions after being recrtuited to the Suicide Squad — had been cut from the film.

In the final version of the film, Harley opened the box and pulled her classic “jester” costume out of it, before deciding on the “Daddy’s Li’l Monster” outfit she wears in the movie. At some point, apparently, there was a beat of her similarly considering and then deciding against the New 52 look.

The New 52 was DC Comics’s 2011 publishing initiative. Adding Harley to the Suicide Squad when the title launched, they also changed her costume to be less like the animated series and more like the Batman: Arkham games, which feature a more dangerous-looking, sexualized Harley.

A photo of the Suicide Squad: The Art of the Movie hardcover, featured in gallery below, shows the concept art behind Harley’s New 52 look, indicating perhaps that at one point they were considering having her wear the costume onscreen.

The bustier would likely be difficult to shoot in and uncomfortable for action sequences, though, so that might have played a role in making the transition to the jacket and t-shirt that Margot Robbie eventually wore.

It feels good to be bad…Assemble a team of the world’s most dangerous, incarcerated Super Villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government’s disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity. U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren’t picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it’s every man for himself?

Suicide Squad is in theaters now.
