How Aquaman’s Jason Momoa Got His Eyebrow Scar

When fans first learned that Jason Momoa was cast as Aquaman in the DC Extended Universe, the response was largely positive. After all, the rugged actor has proved his acting chops in series like Game of Thrones and and films like Conan the Barbarian. Of course, the actor’s trademark eyebrow scar helps him pull off the disheveled aesthetic – and, no, the injury doesn’t come courtesy of FX makeup.

Instead, it came from a bar fight. Kind of.

Jason got the scar over eight years ago while at a bar. He was hit in the eye with a pint glass that shattered upon impact, leaving Jason with a decent scar. While we don’t know what happened to the other guy, Jason had to get a gnarly 140 stitches to close the wound that effectively killed his ‘pretty boy’ image.

Speaking to the NY Post, Jason said he was actually grateful for the injury. “I got called ‘pretty boy’ my whole life. If anything, it’s like, ‘Good, It’s not my thing now,’” he said, describing how he felt after the scar made itself at home.

However, to most fans, the scar has only added to the actor’s good looks. And, what’s more, Jason’s scar isn’t the only injury that’s marred his face. While preparing for Conan the Barbarian, Jason told a friend that his character would look more authentic if he had a crooked nose. As such, Jason’s friend sucker-punched him in the face, breaking the actor’s nose right then and there.

Ouch?

With Jason now starring in the DC Extended Universe, the actor is surely thankful for the rough and tumble role. The actor is playing Arthur Curry who is much better known by the name Aquaman. While some fans know the hero as a blonde, clean-shaven role model, it seems like Jason’s take on the character is a bit darker.

Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment teased fans with a first-look at Justice League during this year’s San Diego Comic Con. The footage showed Aquaman facing on the unforgiving sea with understandable ease, but that courage might have been aided by some liquor. The hero’s edgier vibe has got fans excited to see what Jason will do with the DC Comics icon when Justice League releases next year.

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroesโ€”Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flashโ€”it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Directed by Zack Snyder, this marks the big screen debut of the Justice League, featuring an all-star lineup: Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller and Ray Fisher.

Justice League is set for release November 17, 2017.
