Over on Twitter, BossLogic just posted a piece of fan-art he did of Cena as Shazam. The actor can be seen covering the poster’s background, and his buzzed hairstyle is hard to ignore. Cena can be seen wearing Shazam’s red-and-yellow costume, and a golden cape is shown slung over one of his shoulders.
The imaging of Cena’s Shazam is also joined by a drawing of Billy Batson. The younger boy is seen charging up his electrifying power below his superhero alter-ego, but BossLogic didn’t model the character as an specific actor.

If you are not familiar with Cena’s ties to Shazam!, you have a bit to catch up on. A new report from That Hashtag Show claims the actor is a frontrunner to play the hero along with Joshua Sasse. The site says a series of rumored screentests ended up spawning a “third, dark horse contender” for the lead role, but the talent in question has “seemingly fallen out of favor.”
Cena is an up-and-coming actor in his own right, but the star is known for his wrestling career. The actor has starred in projects like Trainwreck and Sisters as of late. Cena has also provided voice talents for Ferdinard and the currently-filming Bumblebee spinoff movie.
There’s no telling whether Cena will officially nab the role of Shazam, but fans have their hopes. The film’s director David F. Sandberg did hint official casting news would be announced soon. Screentests are also said to be going on for Billy Batson. There are no frontrunners attached to the adolescent role as of yet, but fans will want to keep their eyes peeled as pre-production continues on Shazam!
Shazam! is currently in pre-production. When the film was announced, it was slated to release on April 5, 2019 though that date might have changed.
