While a rumor that the Joker and Harley Quinn movie would lead to the spinoff being shelved popped up last night and was quickly retracted, a new report today contends that the initial rumor was correct and that Gotham City Sirens will not be moving forward.
According to The Tracking Board, the Joker and Harley Quinn movie is planned as a “criminal love story” similar to Natural Born Killers and “would take the place of Gotham City Sirens.” If this is true, this would mean that Suicide Squad director David Ayer, who was connected to Gotham City Sirens, will no longer be attached to any movies in the DCEU. However, no official announcement regarding the fate of Gotham City Sirens—or Ayer—have been made.
The untitled Joker and Harley Quinn film is set to be written and directed by John Requa and Glenn Ficarra and would star Jared Leto and Margot Robbie. The film would be separate from the Joker origin movie Warner Bros. announced on Tuesday. That film is slated to fall under a new DC movies banner with no connection to the DCEU continuity.
