Penguin and Selina Kyle Both Going Even Darker in Gotham Season 3

Gotham season two wasn't exactly a happy experience for Selina Kyle and Oswald Cobblepot. Selina started moving toward the side of the angels - until her friend was kidnapped and tortured, and she also was captured and pitted against her. Oswald was cured (yay!) of his insanity and anger... until he snapped back to reality, and went further than ever before, feeding his step-siblings to his stepmother before leaving her severed head sitting around for days, if not weeks.

So when the actors Robin Lord Taylor and Camren Bicondova say their characters are going darker in season three, well, fans should fear for Gotham City.

"I think Selina is always exploring that without even knowing," Bicondova said of her character's unique ability to straddle a grey area of good and bad, "because she has a genuine heart, she's very loyal, and she's very honest and intelligent. But I think just as natural as her goodheartedness is her evilness. This season we're actually going to be seeing her go down a darker path, and I'm so excited."

She said that EP John Stephens told her she'd be excited by her character's direction this year, and it led to some major fist-pumping moments.

As for Penguin, he'll "absolutely" go darker this year, too, Taylor said.

"The great thing about this season is after last season, having the two people that he loves, in the entire world, taken away from him, he now has full license to go completely psychotic. There's nothing holding him back," he warned. "That's sort of the overall theme of our show, about love and the loss of love, and to love someone is to be vulnerable."

"Yeah, it's a theme for pretty much every character on Gotham," Bicondova added. "You can't be vulnerable in Gotham City."
