Powerless Cancelled By NBC

Some had hoped a scheduling change could be in the offing for DC’s workplace sitcom Powerless, but alas, the show has now exited the NBC lineup entirely.

NBC signaled something was wrong when they pulled the show from the network lineup, despite the fact that three more episodes had already been filmed. Now the network has officially canceled the series (via Deadline), and while no one will necessarily be surprised, it is a shame that fans won’t get to see the final episodes.

Powerless struggled early on to engage viewers, but even before the show hit the air had some significant changes in the premise. The show was originally slated to be about an insurance company that dealt with the aftermath of superhero fights. There’s always plenty of destruction laying around after Superman knocks out Metallo for the umpteenth time, and the company would play a big part in what happened after the hero saved the day and the villain went to jail. The premise was changed however to a security company that worked for Wayne Industries, with the cousin of Bruce Wayne acting as head of the company. The creators cited more opportunities for comedy and scenarios as the reason for the change, but the change seemed to muddy the waters even more.

Hopefully, the show can get a complete edition on Blu-ray or DVD at some point, so the series fans can see the remaining footage.

Full of confidence and big ideas, Emily quickly learns that her expectations far exceed those of her new boss (Alan Tudyk) and officemates, so it will be up to her to lead the team toward their full potential and the realization that you don’t need superpowers to be a hero.

Danny Pudi, Christina Kirk and Ron Funches also star.

Justin Halpern, Patrick Schumacker, Len Goldstein, Marc Buckland and Dean Lorey are executive producers of “Powerless.” Buckland served as the director of the pilot. The series is produced by Warner Bros. Television and is based on the characters from DC.
