In Powerless, Venessa Hudgens (High School Musical, Grease Live) plays Emily, a young insurance adjuster who specializes in covering regular people dealing with damage caused by fights between superheroes and supervillains. When Emily stands up to one of the costumed types during her morning commute, she becomes a hero to her coworkers.
Funches will play Ron, the IT guy for the company where Emily works, RetCon Insurance Co. Ron is described as “sweet and innocent,” and, unlike his co-workers, hasn’t lost his enthusiasm for superheroes.
Powerless also stars Alan Tudyk (Con Man), Danny Pudi (Community), and Christina Kirk (A to Z). Ben Queen writes and executive produces Powerless with director Michael Patrick Jann.
NBC has already released a trailer for Powerless, as well as a set of photos that show the superhero Crimson Fox in the pilot episode. Jack O’ Lantern has also been confirmed to appear in the pilot episode.
NBC announced the pilot order for Powerless in January 2016. The network announced a season order in May.
Powerless is the latest expansion of DC Entertainment’s presence on television. Gotham is set to enter its third season on Fox, while The CW has crafted its own shared DC Comics TV universe with Arrow, The Flash, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, and Supergirl.
Powerless will debut midseason on NBC.
