Ray Fisher Explains How Cyborg Is Different In ‘Justice League’ Than ‘Teen Titans’

Fans of the Cyborg from the Teen Titans animated series may find that Ray Fisher’s version of the character is a bit different than they expect.

Speaking at the AsiaPOP Comicon in Manila, Fisher explained some of the differences between his version of the character and that of animated series.

“He’s a very real and grounded character and that’s something I found very interesting to bring to the table,” Fisher said, as live-blogged by a fan on Twitter. “I love the cartoon, but this is a different Cyborg, for a new era.”

The Walking Dead star Khary Payton voiced Cyborg on Teen Titans and continues to voice the character on the more comedic follow-up Teen Titans Go! While Fisher’s version of Cyborg may be a different interpretation of the character, he still plans on using that signature “booyah” catchphrase.

“I was a huge fan of that Cyborg growing up as a kid because that was when the original cartoon show was on, and Khary Payton is a master at what he does,” Fisher said.

Fisher debuted as Cyborg with a brief appearance in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Cyborg provides an outsider’s perspective on the events of Justice League according to Ray Morton, the actor who plays Cyborg’s father. However, Fisher’s DC Comics hero will take center stage in the Cyborg movie, currently expected to debut in 2020.
