Television is sometimes adverse to featuring bright colors, though shows like Supergirl haven’t been afraid to pull out the expanded color palette from time to time.

That’s why it seemed odd that the producers went for an all silver color scheme for their newest heroic addition, the shield carrying Guardian. The identity is being assumed by Mehcad Brooks’ Jimmy Olsen on the show in future episodes, but the costume differs greatly from the original comic version, which features a bright yellow and blue color scheme with a gold shield.

It’s understandable why they didn’t go with a bright blue, but leaving the yellow out makes him look like a Robocop knockoff. Twitter user The Imaginative Hobbyist posted an updated version of the costume with the gold and blue put back in, and it’s a vast improvement. Even the producers brought down the brightness a bit, it would still be leaps and bounds ahead of the all silver look.

Aside from the costume, being out in the field will be a big change for the character, as described by executive producer Andrew Kreisberg.

“James has a pretty big turn coming up. These next few episodes are going to make him realize that being a photographer…is not enough for him, so he’s going to go on a pretty exciting career trajectory that we’re pretty pumped by. James is going to decide that he can no longer sit back and be a sidekick, so he’s going to become a vigilante. He’s going to become Guardian, complete with the shield, which is going to cause a massive problem in his relationship with Kara, because he’s not going to tell her.”

Supergirl and the DEO are assigned to protect the President when an attack on her causes alien vs. human rights in National City to heat up. Alex investigates the case with Maggie Sawyer while Kara fears Mon-El may be responsible.

Supergirl airs on The CW Monday’s at 8 p.m.
