What would Groundhog Day have been like if part of the story involved Bill Murray’s character being killed in superhero battles all the time? One rogue in The Flash can tell you, after having been revived from the dead, and then killed again, twice in the last six months.

That “Groundhog Day of Death” has been the character arc of Eobard Thawne, the Reverse Flash, who died during the events depicted in Flashpoint only to be brought back in “The Button,” an event which took place across Batman and The Flash and essentially seems to be a bridge between Flashpoint, DC Universe: Rebirth, and Doomsday Clock.

He was revived in the first part of “The Button,” only to die later in that same issue, seemingly at the hands of Doctor Manhattan.

He was revived for the current story arc, “Running Scared,” and in this week’s issue, he’s dead again.

After Barry Allen takes Thawne’s powers, the Reverse Flash admits that he will just keep coming back, no matter what adversity Barry throws up in his path. Before The Flash can really decide what to do about that, Thawne is blasted by a giant energy cannon held by Iris West.

Barry is shocked and dismayed by this, a shock that continues after Iris asks him to leave her alone for a while.
