The character, played by Takers and The Expanse actor Jay Hernandez, has been a centerpiece of much of the film’s recent promotion — especially the scene in which Deadshot helps El Diablo to “level up” his pwoers.

You can check out the concept art below…and yeah, that’s The Joker’s arm in the piece of concept art on the far left.

In the comics, El Diablo as he exists in the film has risen to prominence in only the last few years. The name has a long legacy attached to it that can be traced back to a Western hero created by Robert Kanigher and Tony DeZuniga.

Per the DC Wiki, “El Diablo is a name that has been used by several heroes in the DC Universe. The original was Lazarus Lane, a hero of the old west who is said to be possessed by a demon. He was also a member of the Rough Bunch. In the modern era, politician and ex-boxer Rafael Sandoval took the name to protect a small town in Texas. The third Diablo is Chato Santana, an ex-criminal with the ability to control fire.”

It feels good to be bad…Assemble a team of the world’s most dangerous, incarcerated Super Villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government’s disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity. U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren’t picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it’s every man for himself?

Suicide Squad hits theaters August 5, 2016.
