One element of Supergirl‘s second season that has been largely embraced by fans has been the dynamic between Alex Danvers (Chyler Leigh) and Maggie Sawyer (Floriana Lima). Ever since Alex went on the journey to come out as a lesbian in the first half of the show’s sophomore season, her relationship with Maggie has grown from professional to platonic to romantic.

According to Leigh, the dynamic of ‘Sanvers’ will take yet another step in the season two finale – although it’s unclear exactly what that means. When asked about it by Entertainment Weekly during a recent set visit, Leigh hinted to expect some sort of new development in Alex and Maggie’s relationship.
“I don’t know a lot.” Leigh explained. “But I know one thing that could be happening that might be kiiiind of a big deal for Maggie and Alex.”
For those thinking that this might hint at the couple breaking up, don’t worry. According to the reporter who asked Leigh the question, the actress smiled while answering the question, before adding that the plotline in question is “kind of, maybe, sort of a big deal.”
What exactly could this be? Well considering the fact that the pair are already living together, the logical assumption would be some sort of marriage proposal. While engagements between DCTV characters have had varied results – Oliver and Felicity’s on Arrow ended less positively, while Barry and Iris’ on The Flash seems to be on track, despite all of the obvious road blocks – an engagement between Alex and Maggie would possibly provide a more positive alternative.
And given the positive LGBT representation that Supergirl has been able to display through the Sanvers storyline, a happy engagement and marriage storyline would help that cause even further – and possibly help The CW amend their past mistakes with LGBT storylines on shows such as The 100.
