The Kevin Smith directed episode will see the return of Morgan Edge (Adrian Pasdar) as he points the finger at Lena Luthor (Katie McGrath) and her creation of the lead bomb she made to save National City from the Daxamites last season when multiple children turn up sick from lead poisoning. While Lena knows that her bomb was intended to save people and not hurt them, the fears there may have been a flaw in her design. To clear her name, Kara (Melissa Benoist) teams up with Samantha (Odette Annable) but the pair soon find that clearing Lena of Edge’s accusations may be easier said than done. Meanwhile, as their wedding gets closer Alex (Chyler Leigh) and Maggie (Floriana Lima) will make a critical decision about the future of their relationship.

The state of Alex and Maggie’s relationship has been an area of concern for Supergirl fans since news broke of Lima stepping down as a series regular earlier this year. With Lima leaving the show this season, fans were concerned that Maggie would be killed off, something that executive producer Andrew Kreisberg confirmed would not be the case.

“Maggie does not die,” Kreisberg said. “I’m sure a lot of people are afraid of that. Maggie will continue to exist in the world and we hope that if the opportunity presents itself for her, that she’ll come back from time to time.”

Even if Maggie does not die and Lima is welcome to return, the Sanvers relationship has been shown to hit what could be its breaking point over differences in what each woman wants. Supergirl‘s second episode this season, “Triggers”, revealed that Maggie and Alex have very different ideas about children — specifically that Alex wants to be a parent and Maggie does not — which could be the difference that leads to the end of their relationship.

Supergirl‘s fifth episode “Damage,” directed by Kevin Smith and written by Eric Carrasco and Cindy Lichtman, will air Monday, November 6, 2017 at 8/7c on The CW.
