The cast and crew of Supergirl recently teased the arrival of Morgan Edge (Heroes and Agents of SHIELD alum Adrian Pasdar), a “ruthless real estate developer” with big plans for National City. As series star Melissa Benoist explained, his efforts will instantly put him at odds with the Girl of Steel.

“He’s maniacal in a Wall Street way.” Benoist told Entertainment Weekly. “He’s very manipulative and whip smart and just a sharp businessman. Edge and Supergirl look at each other as playthings. Neither one is threatened by the other, but both have a mutual hatred for each other.”

But Supergirl won’t be the only character Edge butt heads with, with him set to go toe-to-toe with Lena Luthor (Katie McGrath).

“What’s great about Morgan Edge is he’s the more atypical almost Luthor of the story.” McGrath explained. “He’s come in as the big wealthy villain bad guy who doesn’t care. He is what you would expect Lena to be, but Lena is not that. She’s the righteous, for the little people. What Morgan does as a dynamic for the show and for Lena is to show how far she is from being that yet, and how much it’s going to take to get her there, because when you see them in scenes together, they’re so like cats and dogs, polar opposites and she will do anything to get in his way and he will do anything to destroy her.”

And as one of Supergirl‘s showrunners, Andrew Kreisberg, explained, Edge fills a very specific void in the show – one left by the departure of Maxwell Lord (Peter Facinelli).

“With Peter, what we were going for was, you’re not quite sure if he’s good and you’re not quite sure if he’s bad.” Kreisberg explained to Entertainment Weekly. “Morgan Edge is just bad, and Adrian is crushing it. Based on episode 1, we’re actually having him for more episodes because we’re so in love with him and his performance. A lot of his scenes are with Katie McGrath and just watching the two of them go toe to toe as titans of industry is really exciting.”

Fans will get to see Morgan Edge’s debut when Supergirl season three premieres Monday, October 9th, at 8/7c, on The CW.
