The end of Supergirl‘s sophomore season raised quite a few questions for the show’s fanbase. While the show’s San Diego Comic-Con sneak peek revealed a bit of what to expect, the cast sat down with ComicBook.com to give even more hints about the season three premiere.

In the interview, which you can check out above, Kara Danvers/Supergirl herself, Melissa Benoist, revealed that the show will be taking a rather unique turn going into its third outing.

“The tone is definitely different this season.” Benoist revealed. “Obviously things were not so great for Kara at the end of season 2, having to send Mon-El (Chris Wood) into we don’t know where. He went into a chasm in space. But it’s definitely going to affect her.”

Judging by the season three trailer, Kara appears to be feeling the effects pretty significantly. But what does that tell us about season three’s timeline? That brings us to…

Timeline

Much likeย Supergirl‘sย season two premiere, the season will pick up minutes after the finale ended, meaning the departure of Mon-El – and the various other storylines involving the show’sย ensemble cast – will be addressed head-on.

“It’s the start of another long season, and I think that lots of stories are going to unfold as we go on.” David Harewood, who plays J’onn J’onnz/Martian Manhunter explained.ย “Season 3 picks up minutes later, just after Season 2 ended, so youย don’tย have thisย whole enormous leap you’re going to have to make. I think we’re all about to go on another season’s long crazy journey.”

Harewoodย also teased his hopes for his character in the third season,ย and hintedย at the return of fan-favorite M’gann M’orrz/Miss Martian (Sharon Neal).

“Specifically with Hank, it’s about family.” Harewoodย explained.ย “I think you’re going to see him hopefully with M’gann again, and doing some nice stuff with Sharon Neal as Miss Martian. She wasย fantastic.”

Of course, Kara and J’onnzย relationships are only some of the storylinesย fans can expect in season three. With the possible wedding of Alex (Chylerย Leigh) and Maggie Sawyer (departing cast member Floriana Lima), James Olsen’s (Mehcadย Brooks) role as Guardian, and the pending threat posed by big bad Reign (Odette Annabelle), fans have plenty of reasons to tune in to the season three premiere.

Before You Go

Supergirl season three premieres Monday, October 9th, at 8/7c, on The CW.

“Ridding National City of Queen Rhea and her Daxamite army was a major win for Supergirl, but one that came at a significant cost, as Kara was forced to sacrifice her budding relationship with Mon-El. When season three returns with all-new supercharged adventures this fall on The CW, Kara and team will come up against a new threat in the form of DC Worldkiller, Reign.”

Based on the DC Comics character, Supergirl AKA Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist), decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and become the hero who she was always meant to be on The CW series, Supergirl.

Distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. International Television Distribution, SUPERGIRL is executive produced by Greg Berlanti (“Arrow,” “The Flash”), Ali Adler (“The New Normal”), Andrew Kreisberg (“The Flash,” “Arrow”) and Sarah Schechter (“Blindspot,” “The Mysteries of Laura”). Supergirl is based on the characters created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster and appearing in DC Comics, by special arrangement with the Jerry Siegel Family.
