It’s finally here! After months of waiting, The CW is finally undertaking its most ambitious project to-date with this year’s superhero crossover special. The event will see Supergirl teaming up with the Flash and Green Arrow as they fend off an alien invasion alongside the Legends of Tomorrow. The special kicks off tonight with the premiere of Supergirl‘s “Medusa,” and it looks like there’s one man who is ready to see the ordeal kick off if David Harewood’s Twitter has anything to say.

In a recent post, the Supergirl actor shared a picture of him researching the Invasion! crossover with an old-fashioned comic. “Invasion!!!!” the actor captioned the post, and fans can see that the actor looks rather serious while doing his research. It might just be the glasses, but Harewood seems enthralled by the colorful comic.

If you are not familiar with the Invasion! story, then you should know its a fan-favorite from the 1980s. The miniseries was created by Keith Giffen, Bill Mantlo, Todd McFarlane, and Bart Sears. The series follows several of DC Comics’ heroes as they fend off an invading race of aliens called The Dominators. The extraterrestrial pay a visit to Earth after they feel properly threatened by the planet’s growing metahuman community, and they decide it’s their job to end it.

While the comic book storyline followed The Dominators as they tried to end metahumans (and make some of their own), the televised Invasion! adaptation will be a bit different. The CW crossover will give the villains the ability to mind-control their minions to do their dirty work, and it doesn’t look like the heroes themselves will be immune to there psychic charms.

Let’s just hope Supergirl doesn’t have to go fist-to-fist with Cisco. That would end poorly for everyone involved.

Tonight, the special will be introduced to fans in the last minutes of Supergirl. Earlier today, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg spoke about why Supergirl didn’t contain much material from the Invasion! crossover.

“All of the other episodes โ€” Flash, Arrow, and Legends โ€” all have a subsequent episode to the crossovers, but with Supergirl it was the midseason finale, so we wanted to make sure that episode eight of Supergirl spoke to what had been happening in the first seven episodes of the season,” Kreisberg explained. “And then just, logistically speaking, last year we did two shows with a sprinkling of Legends. This year we went to three shows. The idea of going to four full shows, I’m not sure if we could have pulled off logistically speaking.”

The producer then went on to say that Supergirl’s world and narrative won’t be changed much be the event. “It doesn’t really have that big an impact” Kresiberg said. “She’s the one who brought the light. It was really Barry and Oliver who had to go on the journey and she brought the charm and the fun and the kick-ass-ness.”
