There is a clear separation between DC Comics’ film and television offerings. Though actors like Grant Gustin and Stephen Amell would like to have been considered for the big screen versions of the Flash and Green Arrow respectively, Warner Bros. appears content with keeping a clear line between them.

While some in The CW family might not be too thrilled with the division, Flash actor John Wesley Shipp provided a thoughtful response when asked about Ezra Miller playing the Scarlet Speedster in the Justice League movie.

“The Speed Force is big enough for all of us,” Shipp said during The Flash panel at Dragon Con, according to Heroic Hollywood’s Jeff Grantz.

Shipp currently portrays Jay Garrick, the Flash of Earth-3 on the series, though he was the first actor to portray Barry Allen in live action. Shipp starred in the ’90s series The Flash and was originally cast on the CW’s version as Barry’s dad, Henry Allen.

If anyone could have a sense of entitlement to the role, it could be the original. But Shipp seems to understand that these iconic characters don’t belong to anyone actor or portrayal, and they will continue to exist long after they leave the role.

Some fans might be upset that Gustin wasn’t given the nod to reprise his role on the big screen, while others might be able to swallow two different versions of the Flash knowing there’s a whole multiverse out there.

Either way, it sounds like Warner Bros. has big plans for the Scarlet Speedster, with plans for a Flashpoint movie that could lead to some major changes to their DC Cinematic Universe. Miller made brief cameos in last year’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad movies. He’ll get his first major starring role as the Flash later this year when Justice League premieres in theaters on November 17.

The CW’s The Flash returns for Season four on the network on October 10.
