With Wonder Woman debuting in theaters this weekend, audiences everywhere will get to see the Princess of Themyscira in action. And while this will be the first experience with the character for some audience members, many are more familiar with her previous live-action portrayals – namely Lynda Carter‘s. This includes, as it turns out, the film’s stars.

Wonder Woman herself, Gal Gadot, and her costar Chris Pine revealed their first introductions to the character during a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly. According to Gadot, while her inital exposure to the character is unknown, the fictional superheroine was significant to her.

“To be honest, I don’t remember the very first time I was introduced to this character.” Gadot explained. “Wonder Woman is a household name. Growing up, I always knew of Wonder Woman. When the TV show with Lynda Carter was on, I was too young to watch it, but I always knew of Wonder Woman.”

Gadot added that nevertheless, she now has a “girl crush” on Carter, who helped influence the film. Pine, in contrast, did watch Carter’s portrayal of Wonder Woman – and remember it rather fondly.

“Yeah, my first experience with Wonder Woman was Lynda Carter.” Pine revealed. “She, along with [Masters of the Universe‘s] She-Ra, were probably my first two crushes โ€” powerful women in skirts.”

Gadot responded in a rather humorous way, right in line with her character’s feminist symbolism. “Men. That’s so typical.”

Before she was Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), she was Diana, Princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, Diana meets an American pilot (Chris Pine) who tells her about the massive conflict that’s raging in the outside world. Convinced that she can stop the threat, Diana leaves her home for the first time. Fighting alongside men in a war to end all wars, she finally discovers her full powers and true destiny.

Wonder Woman is directed by Patty Jenkins, from a screenplay by Allan Heinberg & Geoff Johns, story by Heinberg & Zack Snyder and Jason Fuchs, and stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Connie Nielsen, Robin Wright, Danny Huston, Elena Anaya, Lucy Davis, Saรฏd Taghmaoui, Ewen Bremner and David Thewlis.

Wonder Woman opens in theaters June 2, 2017.
