UPDATE: The Pokemon Company sent out the following statement confirming that Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon would only be released for the Nintendo 3DS. "We would like to address rumors based on a clerical error on the Pokemon press site; Pokemon Ultra Sun and Pokemon Ultra Moon are coming exclusively (their emphasis) to Nintendo 3DS family of systems and are not due for release on Nintendo Switch. The listing on the Pokemon press site was made in error and is not indicative of future plans. Please refer to the Pokemon Direct for more game details.

Just minutes ago, The Pokemon Company announced Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon for the Nintendo 3DS. While a new Pokemon game is always good, many people were disappointed that we were getting another 3DS game instead of a Pokemon game for the Nintendo Switch.

However, not all hope is lost. The Pokemon Company International's press page briefly listed the Nintendo Switch as a platform for Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, albeit with a TBA next to it. The mention was quickly taken down, but not before it was captured by the Internet for posterity.

If that weren't enough, the Pokemon Company's official press release announcing Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon doesn't mention of a console anywhere. Compare that to the simultaneous press release for Pokken Tournament DX, which mentioned the Nintendo Switch multiple times, or the press release for Pokemon Gold and Silver, which also mentioned the Nintendo 3DS.

So why would the Pokemon Company announce a new Pokemon game and say it's for the Nintendo 3DS, when they actually have plans to release it for the Nintendo Switch? There's two possibilities. Either Nintendo is deciding to troll their fanbase for a week until they unveil a Switch version of Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon at E3, or the Nintendo Switch version won't be ready until sometime in 2018. After all, if players knew a Nintendo Switch version of the game was coming out eventually, many would probably hold off on buying the Nintendo 3DS version.

This could all be a coincidence, or it could be something more. We'll just have to keep waiting...and keep hoping for more information in the near future.
