If you find a popular enough game property, there’s a pretty good chance that they’ll spin off into a secondary product – like a movie (ugh, Angry Birds) or a TV show. In this case, Sony‘s Sly Cooper appears to be set to steal the hearts of French viewers sometime over the next year.

French animation studio Technicolor Animation Productions has announced that it has paired up with Sony Interactive Entertainment to bring its lovable thief Sly Cooper to the CG animation front in France. The series will focus on the wily raccoon as he worked alongside his two buddies, Murray the Hippo (the getaway driver and the muscle) and Bentley the Turtle (the brains of the operation) as they pull off dangerous heists. Meanwhile, hot on his trail is Inspector Carmelita Fox, who will stop at nothing to put him behind bars – even though she’s secretly an admirer of his.

Sly Cooper has been making the rounds in video games over the past few years, getting his start on the PlayStation 2 years back with Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus, developed by Sucker Punch (the creators of Infamous). Since then, two more sequels have released on the PlayStation 2, and the PlayStation 3 saw a pair of releases – The Sly Cooper Collection, featuring all of those games remastered in high-definition; and Sly Cooper: Thieves In Time, a wholly different adventure game developed by Sanzaru Games. More than likely, we’ll see a number of familiar characters from these games pop up in the series, though that hasn’t been confirmed yet.

We haven’t seen any plans for a new Sly Cooper game on the PlayStation 4 just yet, but this TV show could very well kickstart said plans into high gear, especially if it attains enough popularity.

There’s no word yet on its premiere date, or if it’ll make its way over to our shores, but considering how recognizable Sly Cooper is with U.S. gamers, it’d be a shock if we didn’t see his adventures on our shores. Keep those fingers crossed that he’ll be able to steal our hearts once again!
