Earlier today, Pokemon Go announced a massive overhaul of their gym system as the game’s next major update. The update will come with a slew of new changes to every aspect of battling and defending Pokemon gyms, including a few new items related to a new “raid” mechanic.

In raids, groups of players will work together to defeat superpowered Raid Bosses in gyms. These Raid Bosses have insane stats, so it’ll be difficult to win unless you have a few other players on your team. In order to participate in these Raids, you’ll need a Raid Pass, which players get once a day for free from gyms.

If players defeat the Raid Boss, they’ll earn several new items with unique abilities. The items are:

Technical Machines (TM): These scroll-like devices will allow players to change either the Fast or Charged Move of one of their Pokemon. The change is random, so players might have to use more than one TM if they don’t like the new move their Pokemon learned.

Golden Razz Berries: These work just like normal Razz Berries, only with a higher level of potency. Pokemon will be much easier to catch when fed a Golden Razz Berry. Players will also fully restore a defending Pokemon’s motivation.

Rare Candy: A type of Candy that can be used to evolve/power up any species of Pokemon.

Players will also earn a limited amount of Premier Balls that can be used to catch a Raid Boss after their defeat. Premier Balls are distributed based on how victorious you were and are only given out when catching Raid Bosses.
