Housemarque Contributing To Documentary For Its Latest Game, Nex Machina

You may recall, a few days ago, that we reviewed the latest shooter from the creators of Super Stardust HD and Resogun, Nex Machina. We praised the game for its combination of old-school thrills and a huge, involving world filled with hidden secrets – and the team-up with arcade legend Eugene Jarvis certainly didn't hurt either.

But something you may not realize is that Housemarque did a lot of research for the game, and are actually putting that research to good use – not only with a great PlayStation 4 game, but also with a forthcoming documentary that chronicles the making of said game.

The developer has released new footage from the upcoming documentary, titled The Name of the Game, which is being produced by New Dawn Productions and set to release sometime this year. It's been filming over the last few years, looking at the humble beginnings of the Nex Machina project, leading up to its release.

The "featurette" that was released today showcases 17 minutes of footage from the film, which you can see above. It mainly follows the team as it makes its way to last year's PlayStation Experience 2016 event, and also shows the team setting up its booth on the show floor, as well as talking with Eugene Jarvis – the creator of Robotron 2084 and Smash TV, by the way – about getting it off the ground.

That said, Housemarque doesn't really have control over the movie's final release date, since it's being done by an outside studio. However, it did note that 80 percent of the documentary is just about done, and all that's left is to shoot post-launch content now that the game is available for PlayStation 4 and PC.

The featurette can be seen above, and it provides a fascinating look into what development team members do with a project, even if it doesn't quite show the actual development of the game in action – that's likely being saved for the full film. If you're a fan of this sort of stuff – and you should be – definitely give it a look.
