There’s a ton of exciting new content coming to Rainbow Six Siege this year, but unfortunately, along with all of the novelty comes a new price for the standard version of the game. In fact, the standard version of Rainbow Six Siege is no more. Players used to be able to snag the base game for $40, but Ubisoft just revealed that the standard version has been replaced with the ‘Advanced Edition,’ which will sell for $60. This contains all of the same content as the previous standard edition, but they’ve thrown in some in-game currency and cosmetic packs from the upcoming Outbreak event.

“The Advanced Edition comes with all of the content that the Standard Edition had,” Ubisoft confirmed in an update this morning, “access to all Rainbow Six Siege content: modes, maps, weapon options, level progression and the standard amount of time required to unlock the original 20 Operators. As an added benefit, the Advanced Edition comes with 600 Rainbow Six Credits, and 10 Outbreak Collection Packs.” We’re not sure if some cosmetics and credits are worth the sudden $20 price-hike, but we’ll let you be the judge of that; Rainbow Six Siege still is one of the best shooters on the market, after all. So what’s up with the Outbreak event, and when will it begin?
We still don’t have a solid launch date for the Outbreak event, but it’s something that every Rainbow Six Siege player should be looking forward to, as it will significantly shake up the standard gameplay loop. Consider this the Rainbow Six zombies mode. Here’s the official description per this morning’s update:
“An infestation of unknown origin is attacking the small town of Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. The danger is so high that the authorities quarantined the entire town, trapping civilians and soldiers inside. Very little information is filtering out, but the only certainty is that the situation is dire.
Outbreak is a four-week event where all Rainbow Six owners will be able to team-up with two of their friends to take on a mysterious threat. This free event will begin with the launch of the Year 3 Season 1 title update.
“Within the duration of the 4 weeks event, an exclusive collection of cutting edge HazMat cosmetic will be available. This gear will be found in the Outbreak Packs.”
If you’re really into the idea of HazMat suits and accessories for your operators, then the new “Advanced Edition” of Rainbow Six Siege will seem very exciting to you. For the rest of you waiting to get in at a cheaper price, have patience. Siege goes on sale often, and it’s well worth your time and money. We’ll see you all in season three!
