5 Live-Service Games I Can’t Believe Are Still Missing From Nintendo Switch 2

Triple-A third-party games on Nintendo Switch 2 have been few and far between during these early months of the platform’s life cycle. The handheld console received revelatory ports of Cyberpunk 2077 and Star Wars Outlaws, and native versions of big indies like Hollow Knight: Silksong will certainly thrive on the Nintendo eShop. Still, there are some obvious blind spots in the Switch 2 library that probably should be accounted for already, but if you believe the scuttlebutt from developers, there seems to be a reason for the lack of third-party titles.

Reports have come out from many sources that Nintendo wants to pare down on third-party games for the first few months of the Switch 2, which would explain why so many obvious inclusions to the Switch 2 line-up haven’t materialized yet. It took only recently for Warframe studio Digital Extremes to receive Switch 2 development kits. Hopefully, other developers are also getting their kits, because the Switch 2 has the potential to become the ideal machine for online games like Warframe and the already ported Fortnite and Apex Legends.

Below are five popular live-service multiplayer games that should get Switch 2 ports, hopefully sooner rather than later.

1) Marvel Rivals

As the newest kid on the live-service block, Marvel Rivals would be an exciting addition to anyone’s Switch 2 home screen and a big get for Nintendo. The familiar characters and colorful art style would make the game an excellent fit for the platform, and taking advantage of the console’s install base would help to grow the Marvel Rivals community.

2) Genshin Impact

Hey MiHoYo, are you okay? You’ve barely touched that Nintendo Switch Genshin Impact port that you announced years ago. It’s safe to assume that since the gacha game is ending support for PlayStation 4, a Switch 1 version is no longer in the cards. Even so, hope remains alive that HoYoverse can still somehow make good on its promise to let Nintendo fans waste their time and money on its popular title.

3) Overwatch 2

Blizzard’s seminal hero shooter is going through somewhat of a resurgence lately, with Overwatch 2 players flocking back due to returning features from the original game, loads of new content, and balance updates. Technically, you can already play the Switch 1 version of Overwatch 2 on the Switch 2, but like with Fortnite and Apex Legends, the game could use a facelift and technical update. That’ll certainly get more people to install Overwatch.

4) Destiny 2

The prospect of playing a Bungie game on a Nintendo console sounds ridiculous, but we live in ridiculous times. Gears of War is on PlayStation, Helldivers 2 is on Xbox, and the list goes on. Destiny 2 is still chugging along with new content, and adding yet another platform for probably the most influential live-service looter shooter would do some good for Bungie.

5) Valorant

Valorant comes to consoles.

Hey, why not, right? A hardcore Valorant player wouldn’t think of any Nintendo platform as the ideal way to play a tactical shooter, but they’d say the same for PlayStation and Xbox, and that game is on both platforms now. The added advantage of Switch 2 is the addition of gyro aiming, which has proven to be essential for players of Splatoon and even Fortnite and Apex Legends. With that in mind, Valorant seems like a no-brainer, and it would be enthralling to see Switch 2-only matches of a shooter that requires precision.
