Keeping track of the latest video games is no easy task. Between PC, consoles, handhelds, and mobile, dozens of new games come out every week, and a lot of them aren’t very good. How do you separate the wheat from the chaff? Thankfully, you don’t have to, because every week in The Five I dig through the mountain of new releases to find the diamonds you may have otherwise missed.

Every edition of The Five will include a Pick of the Week and four other games you should be keeping an eye on. Whether you want to know about the latest triple-A blockbuster, or the hot new thing on Steam, The Five has you covered. So, without further ado…

Pick of the Week

Batman: The Enemy Within – Episode 1 “The Enigma” (PC, Xbox One & PS4, Aug. 8)

Warning: The above trailer contains some spoilers for Batman: The Telltale Series’ first season.

Telltale’s M-rated take on Gotham City returns for a second season with Batman: The Enemy Within. The first season established Telltale’s alternate take on The Dark Knight, changing his origin in small, but meaningful ways, and now it looks like The Enemy Within will be serving up some major, fan-favorite villains.

The first episode of Batman: The Enemy Within, entitled The Enigma, will focus heavily on The Riddler, who definitely isn’t the playful character we’re used to. This is a guy who saws off body parts if you don’t get his riddles right. We also get some glimpses of a proto-Joker, and Telltale promises your choices will shape his eventual full-on supervillain transformation. Seems like Telltale is pulling no punches this time!

This Week on Steam and the PlayStation Store

Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice (PC & PS4, Aug. 8)

Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice is the latest from Ninja Theory (Heavenly Sword, DmC: Devil May Cry), and, like their previous games, it features impressive visuals and action, but it’s also about the titular character’s struggle with psychosis and mental illness. Senua travels through a version of hell inspired by Celtic and Norse legend in order to save the soul of the man she loved, but is this terrifying world real, or all in her head? Expect our full Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice review, tomorrow.

This Week on Steam and the PlayStation Store

LawBreakers (PC & PS4, Aug. 8)

LawBreakers is one of many games trying to break into the Overwatch-dominated hero shooter market, but this one may have a better chance than most of succeeding, as it’s the brainchild Cliff Bleszinksi, creator of Gears of War. Cliffy B is promising LawBreakers will have all the personality of a game like Overwatch, along with more hardcore action FPS fanatics should appreciate.

This Week at Retail

Mega Man Legacy Collection 2 (PC, Xbox One & PS4, Aug. 8)

Time for another dose of Blue Bomber fun! Mega Man Legacy Collection 2 focuses on the sometimes-forgotten later games in the series, including Mega Man 7 (SNES), Mega Man 8 (PSOne), and Mega Man 9 and 10, which were released digitally on various platforms in 2008 and 2010. In addition to the games themselves, expect all the usual extras, including a challenge mode, museum, and other goodies.

This Week on Steam

Peregrin (PC & Mac, Aug. 8)

Peregrin is a new visually-stylish story-driven puzzle game. You play as a young woman who leaves her primitive tribe to embark on a quest into dangerous lands. Gameplay wise, you have the ability to control various animals and creatures, which you’ll need to use in clever ways to proceed. This one definitely looks more interesting than your average Steam puzzler. Check out Peregrin on Steam.

A busy, varied The Five! Whether you want a good story-driven experience (Batman: The Enemy Within), some old-school fun (Mega Man Legacy Collection 2), or dark, punishing action (Hellblade), this week has you covered.
