By now, you’ve probably caught a glimpse at the trailers for the forthcoming sequel Blade Runner 2049, which is set to debut later this year and follows a detective portrayed by Ryan Gosling as he investigates an intriguing mystery – one surrounding Deckard, the original character from the first Blade Runner (once again portrayed by Harrison Ford).

But that appears to be just the tip of the iceberg, as a new experience will be debuting on the Oculus Rift later this week that will draw players deeper into the world of Blade Runner – via virtual reality.

Turtle Rock Studios, the studio that brought us the original Left 4 Dead for Xbox 360 and PC, as well as the multiplayer adventure Evolve for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC, have announced a new VR game called Blade Runner 2049: Replicant Pursuit, which will have direct ties with the film.

In the game, players will sit inside the cockpit of a “spinner,” one of the flying sentinels that are sent out to “retire” threats – in this case, renegade robots that are acting against protocol.

The teaser trailer for the game is above, and though it’s a bit on the short side, it does set the tone for what’s to come in the game, a first-person experience that should recreate the excitement that the film will provide later this year.

And apparently, Replicant Pursuit is just the beginning, as Oculus has also confirmed that it’s working alongside two additional developers to make other Blade Runner 2049 games for its device, though we’re not likely to see those until closer to the film’s release in October. Replicant Pursuit should certainly tide over players until that time, we would think – and it’ll set the stage for the events to come from the forthcoming film, which is directed by Denis Villeneuve (Arrival, Sicario).

Check out the trailer above, and then imagine getting immersed into the rich world of Blade Runner and seeing how the events play out in a first-person perspective. For fans of the legacy, this should really be something special.
