Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will shed one of the worst things in the franchise, much to the joy of fans. The Call of Duty series has tried to shake up its formula in a lot of ways. This is a franchise that has a very specific style and audience, so if you go too far in the other direction, you may alienate the fans. At one point, Sledgehammer Games was working on a third-person Vietnam Call of Duty game that ultimately got scrapped. They’ve also taken the series to the future and into space, creating a divisive era for the series.

Back in 2019, the series also introduced a seemingly small mechanic that would go on to annoy players for years. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare added interactable doors to its multiplayer. Players could close and open doors which provided a variety of pros and cons. It gave you some cover, but it also alerted you if someone was bursting into a room because it would make a loud noise. Ultimately, players grew to hate it because the doors got in the way and were extremely loud. It ruined the flow of maps for a lot of people and seemed better suited for Call of Duty: Warzone.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Gets Rid of Manual Doors
With all of that said, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will have no doors! Treyarch has confirmed in a new video that Black Ops 7 has no manual doors and this was a conscious decision they made fairly early on, even going as far as stripping the doors from maps that had them. There are some automated doors, which were featured in older games like Black Ops 2, but that’s the full extent of it. It’s a huge win for players and one that fans are celebrating on social media right now.
Of course, there’s really no telling whether or not a game like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will have doors. This was a design choice made by Infinity Ward originally and they may choose to keep it/bring it back next year. Treyarch seems to be a lot more receptive to player feedback and is showing that with Black Ops 7. For starters, Black Ops 7 is making changes to skins and even killed the carry forward system so they could start fresh when it came to cosmetics in the new game. They even changed some of the pre-order skins for the game based on player feedback.
During my preview of Black Ops 7 in August, it was also explained to us that Treyarch listened to a lot of feedback players had with things like tac-sprint and opted to make them optional perks. Tac-sprint was also introduced in Modern Warfare (2019), so it’s interesting to see Treyarch reversing course on so many things that have been with the series since the end of the last console generation. Either way, it’s a strong choice and it will be interesting to see what other pieces of feedback that Treyarch has utilized to craft the final game.
