Destiny 2 Iron Banner Desperately Needs A Spawn Rework – This Is Why

The Iron Banner event is in full swing for Destiny 2 players, and though it houses some amazing rewards and a few hilarious easter eggs – there is still something very fundamentally wrong that Bungie needs to fix. Events like The Iron Banner are challenging enough but one crucial mechanic seems to have been overlooked by the Bungie team and that is the respawn system.

Earlier this week, we did a full breakdown on just how broken their spawning mechanics are in the latest shooter with several in-game examples to show how widespread the problem is. For those that are familiar with how titles in the FPS genre work, it’s not completely out of the ordinary to be suddenly spawned in the wrong place at the wrong time. It happens, but when it happens continuously across the board – something needs to change.

Many players have been frequenting the Bungie forums to discuss the issues they are facing during Iron Banner and arguably one of the most notable complaints is this very issue. A perfect example of this broken mechanic comes from one Guardian that recorded his record of respawn kills – spoiler? It’s brutal. 

Immediately other Destiny 2 players began commenting with similiar experiences and messages of consolation. Statements like “It’s like this came straight from my capure gallery, lol” and “Pretty accurate if you ask me” show that this isn’t a one time fluke or a case of “git gud,” – In fact, this is a similar issue that the first Destiny faced and was later repaired. With weekly hotfixes from Bungie, and the loud outcry of players voicing their concern, it’s very possible that the team behind the shooter are already working on a fix.

With the Leviathan Raid Prestige Mode on the way, and the possible inclusion of Challenge Modes, there’s a lot to grind within the sequel. With so many events focusing on PvP, it would be wise for Bungie to rework their respawning mechanics sooner rather than later as the PC release looms closer and in preparation for additional content. With Destiny 2 having been out for over a month now on console, the fan reaction has been split down the middle but with sanding out the rough edges – such as the spawning issues – that may be enough to quell some of the player reported irritation. 

Destiny 2 is out now for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, with a PC release slated for October 24th.
