Grand Theft Auto V is still an impressive-looking game for years after release, but there is a slightly “unreal” edge to the game. Unless you aren’t wearing your glasses, you probably won’t confuse GTA V for the real world. Well, a number of modders are aiming to change that – by manipulating the game’s textures, lighting, and other effects in clever ways, they transform a really good-looking game, into one that’s nearly photorealistic.

The latest, and perhaps most impressive GTA V graphics mod is NaturalVision Remastered, which aims to make the game look as close to the real Southern California as possible. You can check out an eye-popping trailer for the mod at the top of this post. Here’s how mod creator Razed describes it:

NaturalVision Remastered is a complete overhaul of the original mod. The goal was to try and make GTA V look similar to Southern California in real life. I viewed more than 40 hours of video footage, hundreds of photos and researched a variety of neighboring districts within the Los Angeles and Salton Sea areas. Over 1200 hours were spent working on the Remastered update over the course of six months.

The aesthetic behind NaturalVision Remastered was inspired by Forza Horizon 3, Watch Dogs, and a variety of other games. Numerous ambient details were taken from those titles and reproduced in GTA V’s various weathers effects. Unlike any of the previous versions, NaturalVision Remastered does not rely on ReShade for its looks. This allows for players to enjoy a massive boost in performance.
