GWENT started out as a small mini-game within the much larger world of The Witcher III: Wild Hunt. The highly addictive card game within a game quickly garnered high praise from players and eventually was spun into a standalone title. In an effort to make GWENT more impactful, the team decided to expand the world of GWENT without making another Witcher title with a new single-player campaign called ‘Thronebreaker‘. Unfortunately, it’s been delayed.

As of right now, there isn’t a set release window. CD Projekt Red only confirmed that Thronebreaker has officially been pushed back into 2018 in order to “increase the campaign’s scope.” A reason gamers can expect, the team is sure to put the same effort into the next step of GWENT as they have into all of their other, very successful, projects. They ended their announcement with a heartfelt, “we will do our best to make the final game worth the additional wait.” Fans of The Witcher series and its subsequent mini-game will have much to look forward to, if this is any indication.
According to the game’s official description:
A new story from the world of The Witcher
Thronebreaker spins a truly regal tale of Meve โ a war-veteran queen of two Northern Realms. Facing an imminent foreign invasion, Meve is forced to once again enter the warpath, and sets out on a dark journey of destruction and revenge. Cast with rich, multi-dimensional characters and choice-driven, your decisions will shape the lives of Meve and her kingdom.
