The new Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice trailer, which you can check out above, is definitely the most impressive yet. This game is pretty amazing looking for an indie game (Sony isn’t directly backing Hellblade like have with past Ninja Theory titles), and we get some haunting hints at the game’s storyline. It seems love is at the heart of it all, as Senua is somehow responsible for her man getting killed. Or, at the very least, she blames herself for his death. Now she has to return his skull, where she believes his soul lives, to its home, even as she mentally goes to pieces and enemies of various types close in. So, yeah, this is going to be a dark game, both literally and figuratively. Steel yourself.

On a lighter note, Ninja Theory have also revealed PS4 Pro owners will be able to choose how they want to enhance Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice.

PlayStation 4 Pro players will have the choice between experiencing Hellblade with enhanced resolution or at a higher framerate of 60fps. High-end PC owners will have the option to play Hellblade with an uncapped framerate and in resolutions up to 4K. Hellblade on PC will also support 21:9 ultra widescreen.

Again, an impressive array of options for an indie game. Hopefully Ninja Theory’s “independent triple-A” experiment ends up paying off – it’s clear they have a lot invested in this game.

Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice slashes its way onto PC and PS4 on August 8.
