May was a bit lacking in terms quantity, but it largely delivered on quality, with hits like Injustice 2, Prey, and Fire Emblem Echoes making for a solid month. Unfortunately, things are going to get even more threadbare in June, but the month has a few titles worth looking forward to.

June will see most publishers focusing on E3 rather than releasing big games, but fighting fans do have Tekken 7 to look forward to early on in the month. Nintendo Switch owners will also get their first major, wholly original game in ARMS, which is looking quite promising. As we move into the latter half of the month Valkyria Chronicles and Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy should kick summer vacation off with a bang. Much like this past month, June may be a good time to try out some things you normally wouldn’t play!
Every week we do a more detailed rundown of what you need to play in The Five, but for now, here’s a broader overlook of all the good stuff coming in April. Hit the following pages for five highlights, then a full list of everything worth paying attention toโฆ

Tekken 7 (PC, Xbox One & PS4, June 2)
The first numbered sequel in the series in almost a decade, Tekken 7 uses Unreal Engine 4 to deliver some impressively detailed graphics. Tekken 7 will launch with a ton of content, including a weighty 38 fighter roster, featuring 8 new characters. You also get a full cinematic story mode, which promises to tell the final chapter in the Mishima Blood Saga, which has dominated the Tekken series for the past 20 years. Of course, combat’s been tuned up, and you can expect the same top-notch online experience you always get from Bandai Namco fighters.

ARMS (NS, June 16)
A lot of people were a bit skeptical of ARMS when it was first announced, but it’s been steadily winning Nintendo fans over. The motion-controlled boxing game boasts a colorful, super-creative cast of springy-armed fighters, and more content than you might expect, including the single-player grand prix, target breaking, online modes, and strange games where you use your spring appendages to play volleyball and basketball. ARMS is definitely worth a shot.

Get Even (PC, Xbox One & PS4, June 23)
Get Even was originally slated for a May release, but was delayed as publisher Bandai Namco felt its dark subject matter may not be appropriate in the direct aftermath of the Manchester Arena bombing. A unique mashup of genres, Get Even casts players as a grizzled mercenary who must explore his own twisted memories to recall the details of a job gone wrong. Some of these memories are strongly horror flavored, but some play out more like traditional FPS levels. Get Even is an odd mishmash, but it’s undeniably ambitious.

Valkyria Revolution (Xbox One, PS4 & PS Vita, June 27)
The cult-classic Valkyria Chronicles finally gets a proper console sequel in Valkyria Revolution. This time around, turn-based tactical battles have been replaced with a more action-based, Dynasty Warriors-like approach, although there’s still some room for strategy. The game also ditches the thinly-veiled anime World War II setting in favor of a more traditional fantasy-steampunk world. Valkyria Revolution brings a lot of changes to the table, but this series hasn’t let fans down yet, so give the game a chance.ย

Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy (PS4, June 30)
Grab your jorts and a 2-liter of Crystal Pepsi 90s kids, because Crash Bandicoot is spinning his way back onto the PS4! Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy includes the original Naughty Dog trilogy (Crash Bandicoot, Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back, and Crash Bandicoot: Warped), featuring lovingly remastered graphics, slightly modernized mechanics, and maybe even some new secrets. ‘Nuff said!
