Warhorse Studios has put a lot of effort into its medieval adventure game Kingdom Come: Deliverance, and even though it’s not everyone’s speed (it relies on real-time battle physics and is a lot tougher than your usual venture), it’s definitely garnered an audience.

The game, which came out last week for consoles and PC, has already sold over a million copies, according to this report from Lupa. That’s pretty impressive, since the game leans more on general word of mouth rather than an elaborate advertising program.

“We’re about one million when I count all the platforms and distribution channels,” noted Martin Fryvaldsky, who serves as executive director. “We are really happy.”

That’s not an exact sales estimate, as Fryvaldsky has noted that some sales figures are still being calculated, with most of the revenue coming from the first weekend. “The tip is at the beginning. The game is very similar. At the beginning, there is a strong tip and then there is such a tail and it is up to the tail to keep it as long as possible,” he noted.

He did note that the number was still in a very positive range for the studio. “We certainly thought about one million,” said Fryvaldsky. “The number is surprisingly positive, but it’s not something we think we can not achieve.”

This is all based around a loose translation from Google Translate, but essentially, the game is becoming quite the success for Warhorse. Live streams are making the rounds on Twitch and Mixer alike, and more players are getting hooked into the action, even if it does deviate a little bit from the usual open-world adventure, again thanks to its unique combat system.

It’s certainly worth giving a try, and you can read more about the game in our review, in which we gave it a mostly positive score and talked about the content that it got right, save for some minor bugs and frustrations. Just be prepared for a challenge, because, boy, does Kingdom Come: Deliverance bring it.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance is available now for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
