While there have been numerous swirling rumors around God of War 6, the current leading theory is that it will be set in Egypt. Whether it will feature Kratos or Atreus for the protagonist remains to be seen, but a new rumor may have finally given fans a hint at what to expect. The hint comes in the form of a new weapon that has been leaked, and as the series prominently features powerful weapons like Kratos’ chains, it may confirm where the god goes next.

According to Insider Gaming‘s Tom Henderson, God of War 6 will see Kratos using an Egyptian Sword. What type of sword is not specified, except that it will be similar to that used in Prince of Persia, which means it could be a khopesh or Egyptian sickle sword, perhaps. Henderson did not go into details in the podcast except to say that it will be Kratos’ weapon of choice.
While it remains to be seen if this is true, as this is a rumor and not confirmed, there are many questions raised by this reveal. Kratos was seen using the Leviathan Axe in 2018’s God of War before acquiring his iconic Blades of Chaos. But he received the axe from Faye, his deceased wife. It is highly doubtful that Kratos will remarry if he travels to Egypt, so one has to wonder about the significance of picking up a new weapon.
One theory that could work is that Atreus and Angrboda travel to Egypt, and Kratos has to save them. Atreus could have acquired the blade and given it to his father, or perhaps Kratos discovers it and realizes its power in Egyptian mythology.

Egypt has long been a potential setting for God of War since at least 2018, when the location was being discussed internally at Sony Santa Monica. Of course, God of War Ragnarok continued the Norse mythology story, but now it’s possible Kratos will travel to Africa. After all, it was teased in the Norse games, and there has been concept art seen for it as well. That said, it may not be the next God of War game released, as rumors point to a spin-off title taking Kratos back to Greece. If a new mythology is introduced, it will likely be saved for a mainline game, God of War 6. But there is no telling when this release will come.
