Mario Kart World fans have been left unhappy following the latest Nintendo updates. It has been a few months since the new Mario Kart game was released via the Nintendo Switch 2. Despite this, there is still no word on what the future of the game is or what type of update cadence fans should expect. Some Donkey Kong Bananza DLC previously leaked, but that was never officially confirmed. Officially, Nintendo has said next to nothing about the future of the biggest MK game to date.

Many Mario Kart World fans anticipated this would change with the recent Nintendo Direct, which was brimming with announcements and big takeaways. What it was not brimming with was Mario Kart. Mario Kart World was not present at all, in fact. There was no DLC shown or even a roadmap, and this has left Nintendo fans concerned.
The Donkey Kong Bananza Situation
If the Nintendo Direct was solely focused on the future of the Nintendo Switch 2 and the games still to come, it would be one thing, but it wasn’t. For example, Donkey Kong Banaza — which is newer — featured, and new DLC was both announced and shown for it. This doesn’t reflect well on Mario Kart World, which isn’t just older than it, but needs more support. Donkey Kong Bananza is an offline single-player game. Mario Kart World is an online multiplayer game. Of the two, if there is one game that could use some DLC first, it’s Mario Kart World. Yet, it looks like the opposite is about to happen.
All of that said, and as alluded to, Mario Kart World fans aren’t very happy. To this end, the top post on the Mario Kart World Reddit page this week is a post expressing disappointment about everything above.
Of course, some of the comments have played down this concern, suggesting Mario Kart World isn’t very old, though this ignores the fact that Donkey Kong Bananza is newer and already getting DLC. More importantly, it doesn’t change the fact that the sentiment growing around the game, not just on Reddit, but on other social media platforms like X, is that the post-launch support so far from Nintendo has been lousy, and right now, fans are desperate to know what to expect from the game’s future.
If Mario Kart 8 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe or any indicators, though, post-launch support will be sparse with long gaps between releases, and there will be insufficient communication. While many want a live service-style post-launch support pipeline for Mario Kart World, Nintendo has demonstrated endlessly that it is not interested in this style of game development.
