A Marvel game has been removed from PlayStation and Xbox platforms, leaving those on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X with no option to purchase the title from 2013. To this end, if you own the game, you can continue to play as its servers remain live, and considering the game in question remains on Steam and mobile phones, this probably will not change. If it does, though, not all will be lost because it is both single-player and multiplayer.

The new delisted Marvel game is specifically match-3 puzzle game Marvel Puzzle Quest: Dark Reign, from Broken Circle Studios and D3 Publisher, the latter of which was purchased by 505 Games in 2022. In other words, 505 Games now handles the distribution of the series, and it’s made some peculiar moves with it since getting it, delisting the majority of Puzzle Quest games from the PlayStation Store and Xbox Store, not just this one.
Marvel Licensing to Blame?
If Marvel Puzzle Quest: Dark Reign was delisted from every platform, then it would be safe to assume that either expired Marvel licensing was to blame or simply the cost of maintaining servers. However, the fact that the game continues to be available on Steam and mobile devices seemingly rules out the former and the latter. It’s possible there was some type of different licensing agreement for console usage. While this is uncommon, it’s not completely unheard of. And for what it is worth, while the game debuted in 2013, it didn’t come to console until 2015. So, it’s been ten years, which does sound like the length of a licensing agreement. All of that said, the fact that 505 Games has yanked many other, but not all, Puzzle Quest games seemingly squashes all of this speculation.
Unfortunately, all we can do is speculate because none of the involved and implicated parties have commented on the situation or issued any type of statement. If this changes, we will update the story accordingly.

With Marvel’s upcoming line-up, Marvel fans probably won’t mind or even notice this delisting very much. To this end, there are two major Marvel games coming in 2026. There’s Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra coming in early 2026, and then in fall 2026, Marvel’s Wolverine will arrive.
All of that said, and as always, feel free to leave a comment letting us know what you think, or join the conversation on the ComicBook Forum.
H/T, Delisted Games.
