Initially, the assault rifle known as the X5 Ghost was only able to be glimpsed through a few cutscenes during the game. After several players noticed the rifle and took an interest in obtaining the weapon, the search for the X5 Ghost began. One player posted a tweet inquiring as to where he could find the weapon and received a response from the Mass Effect: Andromeda team.

The tweet was met with a response from Mass Effect: Andromeda’s lead designer Ian Frazier who informed the poster and the community that the weapon they called the X5 Ghost was actually not in the game, but was only designed as a prop.

“It was an early idea that become a prop, but doesn’t exist as a functional gun in the game,” lead designer Ian Frazier replied on Twitter. “That said, several folks seem interested in it, so we’re investigating the possibility of turning the prop into a usable gun for a future patch.”

It seems that the design team did indeed listen to the feedback from players, as the X5 Ghost assault rifle is now confirmed to have been added during the most recent Patch 1.06. The X5 Ghost can be researched from the Milky Way weapons category.

The newest patch came with several other improvements and tweaks alongside the inclusion of the rifle. Conversation options had their visibility improved. Multiplayer powers and weapons also experienced some balance changes, and shotguns received a damage and accuracy buff while the Vanquisher’s impact has also been lessened after a damage nerf.

The news of the X5 Ghost being added also follows soon after it was announced that the Mass Effect series was put on a hiatus and the BioWare Montreal studio was demoted to “support studio” status following a rocky launch of the series’ latest installment.

Mass Effect: Andromeda is currently available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Origin PC.
