After a few somewhat off entries, it looks like Need For Speed Payback could mark a major comeback for EA’s long-running racing series. Payback is very clearly inspired by the Fast and the Furious franchise, and why not? The Need For Speed games were doing crazy crashes and blistering chases when Dominic Toretto was still just a glint in Vin Diesel’s beady eyes.

Earlier this week we got a Need For Speed Payback reveal trailer that hinted at the game’s storyline and characters, and at today’s EA Play press conference, we got to see a daring heist in action. Some of this trailer is pre-rendered footage lifted from the reveal trailer, but most of it appears to be actual in-game footage, all of which is very pretty. Check out the trailer at the top of this post and a description of the Highway Heist set piece, below:
“The crew (Tyler, Jess and Mac) have learned that The House are transporting a car equipped with a new piece of technology that may be a key component in bringing them down. This calls for one thing: acquire the car, get hold of the tech and dent The House’s plans. But how do you get behind the wheel of a car that’s being transported through the desert?
The Highway Heist is one of the set piece moments that takes place within Need for Speed Payback’s single player campaign. Alongside the Highway Heist and other memorable moments you’ll be able to build your perfect ride. Customize the car of your dreams, both visually and its performance, into one of five distinct car classes; Race, Drift, Off-Road, Drag and Runner. Turn a piece of scrap into a piece of art, and use it to tear up the streets and countryside of Fortune Valley.”
Need for Speed Payback squeals on PC, Xbox One, and PS4 on November 10. Those who pre-order the deluxe edition can play three days early November 7, and EA Origin Access members get the name a full 8 days early on November 2.
