A brand new deep dive into LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight has been released in honor of Batman Day. For the last 10 years, DC has celebrated Batman with his own special day. DC pulls out all the stops by releasing all kinds of special content around the Caped Crusader on social media and even permitting some movie theaters to re-release various Batman movies around that time. Typically, you can catch The Dark Knight in theaters on Batman Day, which is always a treat. Unfortunately, The Batman Part II is so far out that we likely won’t get any major news from that film this year, but DC has found another way to celebrate.

Last month, Warner Bros. announced that it was collaborating with TT Games once again to make the first new LEGO Batman game in over a decade via LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight. The game is more of a reboot of the LEGO Batman story rather than the fourth chronological game as it adapts Batman’s origin story in a unique way. LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight will pull bits and pieces from all of the different Batman movies over the years through character designs, dialogue, story beats, and even aesthetic choices.
James Gunn Talks LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight for Batman Day 2025
LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight has gotten a brand new featurette for Batman Day which features commentary from James Gunn, Jim Lee, and some of the developers who have worked on the game. There’s plenty of unseen footage in this 8 minute long video, revealing that the game starts with young Bruce Wayne just prior to the death of his parents and will see him training with the League of Shadows before donning the cape and cowl. Gunn also highlights what makes this game so special for Batman fans and expresses his deep admiration of the character.
LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight has also drawn eyes for its gameplay, which is clearly pulling from the Arkham series. It appears that TT Games is giving a lot more depth to the combat this time around, allowing for a more rhythmic beat-em-up that puts an emphasis on gadgets. All in all, it looks like a very special game and will likely please a lot of people who are waiting for a new Batman video game.
As of right now, we don’t know exactly when LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight will release beyond sometime in 2026. Rumors have suggested it will likely arrive early next year, which would make the most sense. Although GTA 6 is going to dominate next summer, LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight‘s family friendly appeal would allow it to release in that window without it being hurt too much commercially.
