Don’t you just love these nerdy little love stories? A man posting on Reddit under the username “bigtung” decided that it was time to tie the knot with his video-game-loving girlfriend. The two of them enjoy playing their Nintendo Switches together, and one of their favorite games is Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. He thought that a proposal within Mario Kart 8 Deluxe would be the perfect way to ask his special lady to play video games together for the rest of their lives.

He posted a series of pictures that tell the story and everything that happened, which we’ll share those with you here. The photo above is actually the scene of the proposal. As you can see, “bigtung” and his favorite racing boo (not to be confused with Mario Kart’s King Boo) are sitting atop one of the brand new battle mode maps, Sweet Sweet Kingdom. We can’t imagine a more beautiful backdrop. He says that he picked a smaller kart so that it would look like he was lower to the ground than she was. This was his way of “kneeling down.”

The Big Question

For those of you who own and play Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, you’re probably wondering how in the world he was able to post the actual proposal message to the screen like that. He didn’t do this live in-game, rather he quickly took a screenshot and used the Nintendo Switch’s editing function to dress up the image with his proposal. Don’t worry, the Nintendo Switch and this “sweet sweet” scene from Mario Kart 8 Deluxe were only part of the proposal, not the entire thing; we’re pretty sure that she had the honor of seeing her man kneeled down in person to present the ring.

So what about the ring? Where is it, and did it ever get placed on her finger? Did she say yes? The next few images bring a happy conclusion to our little story.

She Said Yes

She said yes. And there she is with her new ring, which represents a promise that she’ll never, ever have to enter into a Mario Kart battle lobby alone (we’re getting choked up over here). Nintendo of America saw their story and tweeted about it, pointing out that her ring was nice and triangular. Are these guys The Legend of Zelda fans, too?!

Here’s bigtung himself to summarize the story: “I used my Switch to assist me with my marriage proposal. ๐Ÿ™‚ Me and my girlfriend both play Mario Kart (as well as Puyo Puyo Tetris) together and I thought it’d be neat to incorporate that into my proposal. Set myself up on a lower (“kneeling”) kart while she was higher up, and used the screenshot feature to mark it up. Happy to report it was a success!”

And here’s the happy couple. Congratulations, you guys. Remember that a successful marriage is always a marriage between two good forgivers. Keep that in mind the next time one of you uses a blue shell on the other.
