Two Xbox Games Are Currently Some of the Best-Selling Switch Games on the eShop

Two of some of the best-selling Nintendo Switch games right now on the Nintendo eShop are two Xbox games. While the Xbox games pipeline is not as renowned as the PlayStation or Nintendo pipeline, some great games have come out of it since it got into gaming with the original Xbox. This pipeline peaked during the Xbox 360 era. And while it had a hard time during the Xbox One generation, there were some gems from this time. In fact, two of some of the best Metroidvanias of the Xbox One generation came out of this pipeline, and right now, Nintendo Switch users are picking them up en masse.

Right now, atop the Nintendo Switch eShop charts are Hades, Hollow Knight: Silksong, Hollow Knight, and Hades II. Rounding out the top five, though, is Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition. And then coming in at #7, behind Stardew Valley, is Ori and the Will of the Wisps. Developed and published by Moon Studios and Xbox, the former has been on the Switch since 2019, and the latter since 2020. So, why are they so far up the Nintendo eShop charts right now? Well, because both have been heavily discounted.

Ori and the Blind Forest

Originally released in 2015 for PC and Xbox One, Ori and the Blind Forest is a platform-adventure Metroidvania game and the debut release of Moon Studios. And what a debut it was. With a 90 on Metacritic, it is one of the highest-rated games of its year, which explains how it picked up four nominations at The Game Awards that year, including for Best Art Direction, which it won. And it sold well, which is how it quickly got a sequel. As for the eShop deal driving purchases, right now, for the next three days, it is 75% off, and consequently available for just $4.99.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps

The sequel is Ori and the Will of the Wisps, which was released in 2020 at the tail end of the Xbox One generation. And it was received even better than its predecessor, as evident by its 93 on Metacritic, though it only picked up three nominations that year at The Game Awards, and won nothing. 2020 was a tougher year in terms of competition than 2015, though. It is also currently 75% off, which means it is available for $7.49.

In our official review of the sequel, we called it “engrossing,” praising its fast-paced combat, sense of wonder and mystery, and its beautiful visual style. Of course, all of this applies to the first game as well. While the deep discounts are no doubt driving the current inflation in popularity on the Nintendo eShop, the quality helps. These are two of the best Metroidvanias of the last 10 years, and should be played by all fans of the genre.
