This morning, The Pokemon Company released a new Pokemon Presents video, which showcased updates for a number of existing games. Of course, the highlight of the video was an announcement for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, which officially represents the ninth Pokemon generation. However, The Pokemon Company introduced the game with some live-action footage of a security guard walking through darkened hallways before entering the offices of Game Freak. Apparently, that brief bit of live-action footage fooled quite a few Pokemon fans, who initially thought it was a set-up for Detective Pikachu 2, or a sequel to the movie Pokemon: Detective Pikachu!

Pokemon: Detective Pikachu released in theaters in 2019. The film was a commercial success, and it proved a hit with Pokemon fans, as well. The movie was based on the Detective Pikachu game for Nintendo 3DS, and a sequel to the game was announced for Nintendo Switch shortly after the film’s release. Fans still want to see a sequel to the movie, but it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen. The game’s sequel, however, seems to still be in development. Hopefully we’ll see it release sooner, rather than later!
