When Pokemon Go Fest went terribly wrong last weekend, Niantic announced they would give all players who attended the event $100 in in-game currency and a free Lugia in addition to a refund for tickets. Niantic is making good on their promise today, as Pokemon Go Fest attendees are finding a sparkly new Lugia and approximately 14,000 PokeCoins in their accounts this afternoon. However, players are discovering that something’s….a bit odd about the new Lugia.

To help explain some background, every Pokemon has individual value stats (IVs) that determine how strong or weak a Pokemon is compared to other Pokemon of that same species. For example, a Charizard with an attack IV of 15 will have stronger attacks than a Charizard with an attack IV of 10. A lot of Pokemon Go players will check the IVs of every Pokemon they obtain with IV appraisal programs of varying legality, many of which use CP and the in-game appraisal system to determine a Pokemon’s exact IVs.

However, the Lugia distributed by Pokemon Go cannot be accurately appraised…at least, not at first. It seems that most third party IV checkers can’t figure an IV combination for the Lugia when they first come in from Niantic.

Luckily, there’s an easy solution for those who just need to know about Lugia’s IVs. Powering up Lugia seems to fix this strange little glitch and returns Lugia back to a trackable CP stat.

It seems that not even the Pokemon distributed as a mea culpa for Pokemon Go Fest can avoid being a little glitchy. Luckily, this seems to be a harmless little bug that’s easily fixable.
