The game announced the new event via a short trailer posted early Thursday morning, giving players a first look at the five new Gen 3 Pokemon coming to the game during the event. The event will begin tomorrow, October 20th, and will run through November 1st.
In addition to Cubone and Gastly (the stars of last year’s Halloween event), Pokemon Go announced that Sableye, Shuppet, Banette, Duskull and Dusclop would all spawn during the Halloween event, giving players their first opportunity to capture Gen 3 Pokemon.
Unfortunately, players are only getting a tease of what’s ahead in the game. Pokemon Go stated that the other 130 new Pokemon would gradually roll out beginning in December.
Here’s what else is coming to Pokemon Go during this spooky season:
Increased Spawns

So what Pokemon are appearing more during the event? Well, we weren’t given a full list, but the Halloween banner (seen above) give players a few ideas.
It looks like the following Pokemon will be appearing in greater quantities:
- Gastly
- Haunter
- Gengar
- Zubat
- Golbat
- Crobat
- Houndour
- Houndoom
- Misdreaveus
- Shuppet
- Banette
- Sableye
- Duskull
- Dusclops
That’s a ton of Pokemon, and that doesn’t even include the special “Witch Hat” Pikachu that will also spawn during the event. Pichu and Raichu were also seen wearing Witch Hats, so it’s possible that special Pichu will also hatching during the events.
Tons of Candy

Halloween is all about Candy and Pokemon Go is giving players plenty of chances to stock up on Candies for their Pokemon.
Players will earn double Candies for catching, hatching, and transferring Pokemon, just like last year. Buddy Pokemon will also earn Candies twice as fast, meaning that players only need to walk half the distance to earn valuable Candies for rare Pokemon.
Pokemon Go is also giving out special costumes to trainers in the form of Mimikyu Disguise Hats. Mimikyu is a Pokemon from Pokemon Sun and Moon, so seeing a reference to it in Pokemon Go this early is a bit surprising (and delightful!)
There will also be special boxes on sale during the event, which will give players a chance to buy Raid Passes and Super Incubators at a discount. We’ll see if these are good deals or not, but players might want to stock up on Raid Passes in case Ho-Oh decides to show up.
We’ll have more coverage of Pokemon Go‘s Halloween event throughout the day!
