Yesterday, we reported that game developers added the gender ratios for the “Gen 3” Pokemon, which cleared one of the final hurdles before the Pokemon could officially go live in the game. These gender ratios help Pokemon Go determine whether the Pokemon you see in the game are male or female, or whether they have any gender at all.

While most of the Pokemon gender ratios corresponded to the gender ratios seen in the main Pokemon games, players did notice a major deviation. Whoever entered in the ratios swapped the genders of Latios and Latias, a key pair of Legendary Pokemon.

What Are Latias and Latios?

latias latios pogo

Latios and Latiasย are known as the “Eon Duo” and are a pair of Legendary Pokemon that usually roam the Hoennย region.ย Although both look similar andย are highly intelligent Dragon/Psychic dual-type Pokemon,ย each has their own unique stats, moves, and different genders.

Latiosย (who is male in the main Pokemon games) is the more offensive oriented of the pair, with high Attack and Speed stats. Latiosย also has a special move called Luster Purge that can lower an opponent’s Defense, which allows hisย attacks to hit even harder.

Latiasย is female and is defensively oriented. With her Mist Ball attack, she can lower an opponent’s Attack stats in order to makeย her strong Defense stats even more potent.ย

For reference’s sake, Latiosย is the blue Pokemon, while Latiasย is red.ย

Sinceย Pokemon Goย hasn’t gone live with the new Pokemon (and likely won’t add Latiosย and Latiasย for a while), this is a pretty easily correctable bug. Hopefully, someone at Nianticย notices before they release the Gen 3 Pokemon into the wild!ย
