What Is a Timed Incubator in Pokemon Go?

Eggs haven’t always been a part of Pokemon Go, but they’ve been around for most of its lifetime. Incubators and eggs arrived in the game in late 2016, after that magical Pokemon Go summer when the app first released. Since then, the one unlimited incubator, along with single-use ones available in the in-game shop, have been staples of the game. In fact, it’s been over eight years since a new type of incubator was introduced in the game. But that’s about to change.

Starting with the Tales of the Transformation season on September 2nd, 2025, Pokemon Go will have a new kind of incubator. The Timed Incubator first arrived as part of the September GO Pass Deluxe, marking the first new way to hatch eggs since 2017. But how do you get one, and how does it work?

The Timed Incubator, like the free Incubator all trainers have, will be an unlimited-use option for hatching eggs. It hatches eggs at the normal rate, unlike the boosted Super Incubator, which cuts hatch distance in half. But there’s a catch.

As its name suggests, the Timed Incubator will expire one week after the Go Pass period in which it’s earned. In other words, if you unlock the first-ever Timed Incubator from the September Go Pass, it will expire on October 14th. Even if you don’t earn it until the last week of the Go Pass period, it will still be unavailable after that date. So, the sooner you’re able to reach Rank 20, the more time you have with two unlimited Incubators instead of just one.

How To Get the Timed Incubator in Pokemon Go

The Timed Incubator will be a part of the GO Pass Deluxe starting in September 2025. For this month, it will be unlocked once you reach Rank 20 for the Go Pass Deluxe. This is the paid track for the Go Pass, meaning that players will need to pay $7.99 for the option to earn a Timed Incubator.

From the sounds of it, the Timed Incubator will be a recurring reward that players can earn. It’s unclear if it will be included in every new monthly Go Pass or if it will pop up occasionally like the Lucky Trinket. But either way, the only way to currently get a Timed Incubator is to buy the paid Go Pass Deluxe and reach the required rank before the month runs out.

Is The Timed Incubator Worth It?

So, given that the Timed Incubator is a paid option, is it worth it? The Go Pass Deluxe costs $7.99 USD, but you don’t just automatically get the Timed Incubator for that price. You will also need to reach Rank 20 by the end of the month to unlock it. And to really get use out of the Timed Incubator, you want to reach that rank relatively early in the month, so you can hatch several eggs before the expiration date.

Ranking up in the Go Pass requires completing various Daily and Weekly Tasks. Typically, these involve regular in-game tasks like catching Pokemon, spinning PokeStops, battling in Raids, etc. So, if you are playing Pokemon Go pretty regularly, hitting Rank 20 with several weeks to spare should be pretty manageable. In that regard, the Timed Incubator is probably a solid investment for a regular player.

However, you also have to consider the value of hatching eggs and how much mileage you’re usually putting in. If the standard Unlimited Incubator keeps you going, adding a limited bonus one might not feel worth it. If you aren’t frequently getting in the distance to hatch eggs, or if the current egg pool for the season doesn’t interest you, it may not be worth it.

Honestly, at $7.99, I don’t think the Go Pass Deluxe is worth it for the Timed Incubator alone. However, if you’re a regular player and the other rewards in the Go Pass Deluxe appeal to you, it is a nice bonus item – particularly given that we’re about to get new Pokemon hatching from eggs with the seasonal shift in the egg pool.
