Get ready for the summer of Magikarp. The Pokemon Company has just released Pokemon: Magikarp Jump, a new mobile game for iPhone and iPad devices. The game went live on the US Apple App Store and Google Play stores earlier today, after a limited release in Italy and Japan earlier this week. Check out a first look at the game in the trailer below:

The new game is all about raising Magikarp, a floppy fish Pokemon widely considered to be the weakest and most worthless of all Pokemon species. Players feed and train their Magikarp to compete in various League “battles” to see whose Magikarp can jump the highest.
Players can only train one Magikarp at a time and will eventually lose their Magikarp due to either evolution, attacks by diving Pidgeotto, or other circumstances. However, players can quickly obtain a new “generation” of Magikarp that can be trained even faster and stronger than before.
Although Magikarp is the star of Pokemon: Magikarp Jump, plenty of other Pokemon will also make appearances. As players meet Pokemon like Pikachu, Bulbasaur, and Rowlet, they’ll stick around and help train your Magikarp. Players can also grow and decorate the Magikarp’s pool with decorations.
Like past Pokemon mobile games, Pokemon: Magikarp Jump is free to play, although there are plenty of in app purchases. Per early reports of the game, Pokemon: Magikarp Jump will eventually become a bit of a grind without the help of some in-app purchases.
We’ll report more on gameplay and tricks later this week, but in the meantime, download Magikarp Jump today and let us know your thoughts on Twitter or Facebook.
