With the release of Pokemon the Movie: I Choose You in the United States, the Pokemon Company has released a new version of the original Pokemon anime theme song. Originally sung by Jason Craig, the iconic theme song (named “Pokemon Theme”) extolled the virtues of the Pokemon franchise, encouraging viewers to “Be the very best” in a “world we must defend.”

Although the song was only used for the English-dubbed versions of the first 79 episodes, it became synonymous with the Pokemon franchise and helped Pokemon become a lasting part of American pop culture.

Sadly, Jason Craig doesn’t return for the remixed version, but you can hear the first 45 seconds of the song in the video above.

The new theme song will be featured inย the English version ofย Pokemon the Movie: I Choose You. The new Pokemon movie, which was released as part of a celebration of the anime’sย 20th anniversary, is a loose retelling of Ash and Pikachu’s origin story, starting with their rocky first meeting in Pallet Town.ย

In the movie, Ash and Pikachuย eventually go off in search of the Legendary Pokemon Ho-Oh and make a powerful enemy in the Mythical Pokemon Marshadow. Several new characters take the place of Brock and Misty in the movie, which is confirmed to take place outside of the anime’sย official canon.

The movie will be at select theaters in the United States on November 5th, November 6th, November 11th, and November 14th.ย
