How is Rainbow Six Siege only getting loot boxes now? You can’t have a modern multiplayer shooter without loot boxes! Particularly a character-driven one like Rainbow Six Siege! Well, thankfully, Ubisoft is fixing this egregious oversight, adding loot boxes, er, I mean “Alpha Packs,” to Siege as part of its latest update.

Here’s how Ubisoft describes the packs:
Alpha Packs are designed as a way to give you free cosmetics, just for playing the game! Arriving in a staggered release, Alpha Packs will introduce a chance-based loot system that will contain many past cosmetics, as well as exclusive Legendary tier items that you will only be able to get in Alpha Packs. We will be staggering their activation across every platform in an effort to ensure the most stable deployment possible. We understand this may be frustrating for some, but it is imperative that we do not impact performance.
Ubisoft doesn’t say whether you can also pay for Alpha Packs, but you know you’ll be able to. That’s the whole point of loot boxes. As mentioned, Alpha Packs won’t appear immediately following the update โ Ubisoft will be rolling them out on a platform-by-platform basis.
Here’s what else you can expect in Rainbow Six Siege update 2.1.1:
Hibana’s X-KAIROS Launcher
X-KAIROS Pellets Not Exploding
- A fix is being deployed to correct an issue that prevents Hibana’s second charge from exploding when it was activated quickly after the first charge.
X-KAIROS Pellets Not Spread Correctly
- Your pellets should now distribute correctly when activating the gadget between two reinforced walls.
X-KAIROS Exploit Fix
- You can no longer use the exploit to trigger a second set of pellets to explode at the same time as the first. They will now be set off individually.
Lingering Visual Effects
- You should no longer see visual artifacts left from detonated pellets
Map Improvements
Kanal Spawn Kill Exploit Update
- The closed window in Kanal’s Control Room is reopened. To compensate, there are now additional objects to block line of sight to the spawn.
Coastline Bar
- Some walls in the Blue Bar of Coastline are not reacting to destruction properly. We have gone through and rebuilt the walls that are impacted to ensure that destruction is properly replicated throughout the entire wall.
